Two different European earthquake monitoring sites (here and here) reported an 8.4 earthquake deep inside the Libyan desert about 30 miles southeast of Sinawin on May 19. The epicenter was approximately 120 miles south of the Mediterranean coast and roughly 200 miles southwest of Tripoli. Here are the earthquake details:

Oddly, this earthquake does not appear on the USGS website or any other earthquake reporting site.

Interestingly, the largest nuclear device ever detonated, the 50 megaton Soviet-made Tsar Bomba, would have been capable of producing almost exactly an 8.4 earthquake on the Richter Scale if it had been detonated deep underground.

Is this earthquake being censored?  If so, was it a subterranean detonation in a remote desert location to safely demonstrate Libya’s nuclear capabilities to its Western attackers?  The West would certainly want to contain that information to prevent widespread panic since a 50 megaton nuke could utterly wipe out an entire metropolis.  Was the earthquake the result of a NATO attack?  Or was the earthquake a real, natural event or simply a strange glitch on a pair of seismic instruments?

  1. Thank you Van Smith for posting this. When the ‘news’ broke of the 8.4 EQ in Libya, I checked both the EMSC site, and the National Institute of Earth Physics in Romania. I printed off both sets of information thinking it was a hallucination, but why the heck is this not being reported on Mainstream News Media outlets ?? I now have the ‘proof/evidence’ of this 8.4M EQ. If what you say is remotely plausible, RE: a 50 megaton nuclear detonation 30km underground seems quite unlikely, especially at the depth of the epicenter (30km)? I don’t know. This is a real head scratcher. How can an 8.4 magnitude earthquake appear on 2 separate seismological services, but the mainstream news media are not reporting it? the news of the 8 ‘warships’ being hit by NATO planes is all over the internet…this has got me stumped 🙁

    • Yes, a 30 km deep detonation is very unlikely even given Libya’s experience drilling oil wells. The deepest hole ever drilled was only a little over 12 km deep.

However, initial depth estimates of earthquakes are usually just rough guesses. These estimates frequently change dramatically in the hours following a quake, so 30 km might not be accurate at all.

Also, be aware that the Centre Sismologique Euro-Méditerranéen site (http://www.emsc-csem.org) lists several different recording stations that picked up the Libyan earthquake only a few minutes before other earthquakes were recorded in the Mediterranean and then Sicily and Southern Italy. However, some of the Libyan data is incomplete.

But it does look like a Libyan quake did occur.

  2. I too look for the two European websites but i didnt find any. Also I tried every links that I saw in tweeter. This I think so far the closest one Ive got http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqzQnSsddys&feature=youtube_gdata_player.

  6. Interesting. As has already been mentioned, both of the links are now dead.

  7. For Consideration: I came to this conclusion on the 12th of May

Based on the work by Mensur Omerbashich titled, “Astronomical Alignments as the Cause of ~M6+ Seismicity we should expect a Major Earthquake on or within three days of 19-May-2011. There are two significant planetary alignments by midnight on the 18th. The first is Earth-Mercury-Venus and the second is Jupiter-Mars-Sun. In addition to the two alignments there is also The Elenin which will be within 1.832 AU from Earth and 2.217 AU from the sun. May, will also have a full moon on 17-May which will contribute greatly to this occurrence as it will fall within the alignment plane……Moon-Earth-Mercury-Venus.

To show a major earthquake which could be (and should be) linked planetary alignments would only add credibility to Mr. Omerbashich’s work. Not sure that is a good idea for the establishment because we (common folk) can use the Applet (JPL Website) as I did to make future major earthquake predictions.

    http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=C%2F2010%20X1;orb=1;cov=0;log=0;cad=0#orb

Oh….one should also keep in mind that Mr. Omerbashich has a pending lawsuit against the USG for a hefty some of money for a patent which he believes is worth a trillion dollars.

  8. I DONT BELIEVE THIS! Why hasn’t the Libyan media reported this???????????????

    • The Libyans are not reporting because it did not happen 🙂

Or it if did nobody noticed on the surface ..

  10. Wakey wakey people … Do some serious research. See with a heart that’s open and eyes of truth.

I personally viewed this record on the seismic site before it dissapeared. 8.4 with coordinates of 30.7220Lat 10.7872Long. Hmmm! I waited and no news. If you overlay the oil drilling positions, this is not far from one of the major spots.
HAARP Alaska has been beaming up this last week. There’s been talk of something big happening. You have to wonder …

    Is this it?

HAARP – High Auroric Atmospheric Research Program … Now you have to wonder if it were a research program, who are they experimenting on. Considering it is funded by military and government departments one has to wonder. HAARP has many US patents. Called the silent death ray ; it invisibly operates to the naked eye but it can be detected sometimes on weather radar maps online. Weather manipulation etc. The capacity to create earthquakes is on the list of it’s many functions. HAARP facilities are all across the globe. just watch your weather charts for flashing lines etc. It beams up into the ionishere and connects with stations all over the globe.

Our earth is doing her natural shifting and shaking and realigning, but hidden between the trembles I’m sure you’ll find is much more that isn’t meant to be.

    The Peaceful Pink Politician

    • Utter twaddle, HAARP has nothing to do with earthquakes. Same for infantile ‘planetary alignments’ hokum.

  11. and what about HAARP? as posibility

  12. Yes i was following this since last night…. all the sites that had info are wiped clean now….. why would that be?

  13. Very interesting.

  14. ok could this make sense guys?….bunker buster bomb, (earthquake bomb), could this cause a recording on the seisms off the coast, because ographs? If so they would want those readings removed wouldn’t they? It would explain why it was off the coast “The Earthquake bombs were designed not to strike a target directly, but to impact beside it, penetrate under it, and create a ‘camouflet’ or large buried cavern at the same time as delivering a shock wave through the target’s foundations” and would it also explain then why libya have made no statement…that would be admitting that the US/NATO have the upper hand… and they will not want to officially recognise that yet…would they?

  15. If it was HAARP then at least one network – from a country not controlled by the U.S would be covering the quake? I’ve heard that governments around the globe are bunking down and creating underground safe havens for what may be coming. ‘Comet’ Elenin. If the dates all match up then we should witness a huge quake late June? This is all very mysterious – if there was an 8.4 and thats been covered up – its got to be something bigger then HAARP. HAARP could do it – dont get me wrong, but my gut says no. Has anyone got any friends/contacts in Libya? Especially near the coast? Word of mouth is always best

  16. Was it near the coast of Libya, or deep in the desert? You can’t even be consistent in the one page.

More likely, this was an online “flash mob” attempting to create an event that didn’t occur.

    • The location of the purported earthquake epicenter was as described in the article. The location description provided by the Centre Sismologique Euro-Méditerranéen site was misleading because the epicenter coordinates were over 100 miles from the nearest coast, deep in the Libyan desert.

    • Here is the rough, slightly cleaned-up Romanian to English babblefish translation:

Shock Thursday afternoon on the National Earth Physics site which published information that a devastating earthquake had hit coastal Libya, 8.4 on the Richter scale. The site of the infp published the information saying that an earthquake with magnitude 8.4 on the Richter scale occurred on coastal Libya. An error of appliances from Strasbourg to which infp is connected, said head of the institution, Gheorghe Marmureanu who heads.

In fact, it was an error. The earthquake was 5.2 on the Richter scale, hit Northern Libya, came in reinsurance, in Algeria, arrived in Morocco and then came the Atlantic. It was felt in Italy. Ask is great there. Yes, it appeared that error, but it’s the Nov is in Strasbourg, the machinery that’s where broke “, said the realitatea.net, infp director Gheorghe Marmureanu who heads.

So this blurb seems to suggest that the earthquake report was due to an instrument error in Strasbourg that misreported a 5.2 earthquake in Northern Libya.

  23. You cannot rely on the authorities releasing accurate information. There was some interesting seismic activity in Yellowstone Park a little while ago. The USGS then turned off the monitors claiming that they had been damaged by frost and were giving out false data.

Personally I believe that the Elenin object has caused the last three big earthquakes. The next alignment will be on the 26th September. It is also worth noting that our second moon, Cruithne, will also align with us, Elenin, and the Sun on this day.

    See it for yourself.

  25. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/errata.php
note that this page is a new feature on usgs
a false positive of 8.4 is quite powerful “ghost”shake (scuse the term) and one hell of resonance to pick up – or hiccup in the software detectors especially for a quake that seemingly never happened…..
usually false positives are connected to foreshocks and seismic equipment/softwares’ inability to see “an earthquake” in its entirety -often reporting fore and aftershocks automatically as seperate events- all the errata on the usgs page are about 4,0 richter and seemingly of slightly less magnitude than the events they were confused with -attached too
    or are adjustments f magnitudeeg

A minor earthquake occurred on February 17th at 10:49 UTC (4:49 AM at the epicenter) 4 miles from Guy, Arkansas. Eleven minutes after the earthquake, the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) released an initial location and preliminary magnitude of 4.0 for the earthquake. Forty-two minutes after the earthquake, a software problem resulted in a double posting of the same earthquake with an incorrect magnitude of 4.7. These errant postings were removed within 16 minutes. The earthquake was updated to a refined magnitude of 3.8 an hour after the event.

“The release and double posting of the magnitude 4.7 event was an error. However, magnitude updates (in this case from a preliminary magnitude of 4.0 to its current magnitude of 3.8) are standard procedure. Magnitudes are often updated as more data become available and time-intensive human analysis is conducted on the seismograms.”
never seen an 8.4 false positive though!!!!
    what we do know:
at least two detectors seemingly picked up frequencies that mimic an 8.4 quake….
usgs produces about three false positives a year of note …..
earthquakes are subjective and magnitude is an interpretive measurment…..
a “ghost” quake of 8.4 is one hell of a “glitch” unless two people simultaneously kicked the detectors or crashed their cars into them, then this thing is rather a big “anomally”
seeing as there is now a record of errata at usgs (but no historical one) and this is the only concise data on false positives i could find quickly then it sure throws up some odd uestions like
WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING WITH THE FUCKING SPACE DEATH BEAM!
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED A SPACE BEAM ANYWAY IF YOU HAD A NUCLEAR BOMB???

  27. Sounds like ((((HAARP))))

  28. Hmmm, could be a Nuke, but an 8.4 Quake is the equivalent to 0.355E+18 Joules. That’s roughly 84 Megatons. Quite possible. The largest H-Bomb ever detonated was the Tsar Bomba by the Soviet Union. That was 50 Megatons, but was originally designed for 100. Although, it would make it easier to use Nukes and cover it up in this post Fukushima era we now live in. Nato/NWO can use nukes where ever it wants now and any radioactive fallout can be blamed on Fukushima. Quite ingenious actually.
