1.8 GHz P4 Parts Appear in Channel

Just as Intel promised, boxed P4's are beginning to appear in the retail channel. We reported earlier this week of the conspicuous lack of availability of 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 parts. Intel spokesman George Alfs told us to expect to see the retail boxed chips appear this week, and true to his word this seems to be happening. A search on Price Watch now reveals at least six different dealers carrying Intel's fastest CPU. The lowest price currently listed is $599 which includes heat sink and fan, but no RDRAM.
Related to another story we have been covering, VHJ has been informed that Intel's 0.13 micron copper process Pentium III, commonly referred to as "Tualatin," will be launched in July. Combined with other information we have received, this indicates that mobile Tualatin systems will likely also be available from major OEMs before the end of this month.
