SEOUL, Korea, Dec. 19, 2001 -
Intel Korea today announced it is working with
Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung SDS to jointly study a next-generation IT
infrastructure for Samsung Life Insurance based on Intel® Architecture.
The three companies agreed to begin research on the implementation of a
standardized computing infrastructure based on Intel-based computing
solutions. The infrastructure is designed to enhance Samsung Life Insurance's
competitiveness and support the company's long-term business goals. The
comprehensive, end-to-end solution will integrate Intel® Itanium™ processor
family-based servers with Intel® Pentium® 4 processor-based PCs, in addition
to Intel® Personal Client Architecture (Intel PCA)-based wireless PDA
platforms and networks.
"Development of an advanced computing and network infrastructure is essential
for Samsung Life Insurance to maintain its leadership in the Korean market,

Intel Architecture-based solutions, with their outstanding cost efficiency,

jointly develop solutions prioritized by Samsung Life Insurance. For example,
the lab will soon begin research on the company's Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) System and Risk Management System. Intel will provide Samsung

lab equipment and facility.
"The Internet has had a profound impact on the financial services sector and
leading corporations realize the need to use IT for competitive advantage,"
said John Davies, vice president and general manager of Intel's Solutions
Market Development Group. "We applaud Samsung Life Insurance for its business
vision and plans to implement a world-class, next- generation IT
infrastructure. Through the Intel Architecture Solutions Lab, we will work
together to accelerate the development and testing of business solutions
required to enable Samsung to meet its business needs."
