Acorn weren't initially going to use an ARM1-only computer to compete against IBM.
Instead they were planning to link it via a Tube interface to a 6502-based machine.
However, they wanted to use other 2nd processors first: 80286 for DOS and Z80 for
CP/M. In testing a variety of other 2nd processor candidates they developed much
expertise, which unfortunately got squandered. The 1st ARM1 product was an
evaluation board for the IBM PC, for which it was a de facto 2nd processor, yet
Acorn preferred to develop a BBC-branded Archimedes which was a business
computer in looks only, rather than catapult the PC to new heights with minimal
effort, or with a bit more effort, create a graphics card for the PC, or run a
BBC emulator on an ARM1 computer, given they were so hooked on BBC/government
patronage that they failed to capitalise on opportunities that they had a monopoly
on. Their 1st true line of business computers was their RISCix series.

Good point. You'd hope that with all of the milk subsidies in this country that all milk products in this country would come from this country, but the forces behind globalization are strong.

Cute :) By the way, I would be careful getting generic dried milk products with all of that crap China was putting in baby formula. I honestly don't know where they process their milk, but I'd still be wary.

Thanks for your comments. A reply to your question deserves an article to itself. If time permits, I'll try and post one this weekend.

Also note that the article here is a mirror of a report published on BSN* last spring that was lost in a server crash. The resurrected report here is currently in the first draft form as I initially submitted it to BSN*. I made numerous edits before the article was posted that are not reflected here yet. I need to try to recreate those edits this weekend as well.

Hi,

My head is still 'spinning' from your article.....but I keep thinking, why did Intel dump the ARM licence 1st round when they bought the StrongARM capability from DEC some 10 years ago.....it seemed, at least to me, they learnt all the 'tricks' embedded in the architecture, ported it, if such were possible, to the Atom, and sold off the capability to Marvell, which as we now know is making lots of hay with it.

So, at this point, one is tempted to think the advantage of ARM is primarily in mobile devices and similar form factor applications, while as the world moves to cloud computing, and large scale servers with huge I/O intensive data storage farms, the huge servers Intel can make with its high end chips is going to ensure a great future for CISC based devices only, based on X86 architecture?

Grateful for your feedback on mobile vs data centre and cloud computing advantages for either of the chip architectures.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for the most illuminative report I've read so far on this extremely current 'core' topic of microprocessor design. I'd been searching around for many weeks to understand the history of ARM as well as the key differences between the X86 and ARM chips, and you seem to have covered both the history, current and future state of play very comprehensively.

Best of all, to a simple accountant's mind of mine, it was relatively easy to read, understand and absorb quite a lot as a layman, thanks to my 13 years at Digital Equipment. I used to be bewildered by Apple's very brave decision to go it alone on its IPad CPU choice away from Intel, but after today, I am no longer!

Thank you so much, and best wishes.

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS = 666
USING BIRTH CONTROL IS BAD = 777
YEHOVAH LOVES YESHUWA = 777
YEHOVAH IS YESHUWA'S GOD = 777

There are many more results I have that I will not post here. A=3 B=6 C=9 D=12 E=15 F=18 and so on all the way to Z in multiples of 3.

Verify these results quick in the alphanumeric calculators at www.666myth.com

YEHOVAH = 777 in Starter 100
HITLER = 666 in Starter 100

A=100 B=101 C=102 D=103 E=104 F=105 and so on all the way to Z

I agree - the end times are definitely approaching quickly. According to the book of Revelation, after 1/3 of the ships and sea creatures are destroyed, 1/3 of the fresh water becomes deadly, and 1/3 of the day and night are without light, then the antichrist will rise to power when the Abyss is opened, and will rule some sort of global economic 'kingdom' for 3 1/2 years. After that it all happens rather quickly. Then Jesus will defeat him and set up His kingdom forever. YESSSSS!

Again, it is very important to recognize that the Elberton Granite Association and the Elberton Chamber of Commerce ran out of all copies of Common Sense Renewed several months ago. However, they are now selling copies owned by Joe Fendley's son, Joe Fendley Jr., so Elberton is taking care of Joe's son, which is a good indication of the positive character of Elberton. Elberton is a good town run by people with good intentions.

August 2010 update: I called Elberton Granite Association (706-283-2551) on August 4 and they still had a couple of copies of the hardback left. All the ordering information noted above is still the same [Make the check payable to Joe Fendley, Jr. and mail it to the Elberton Granite Association address specified above]. I mailed my check for $25 for the hardback, and received it August 11. My particular hardback is #65 out of 100 and signed by Robert Christian (they obviously didn't mail them out in order based on the comment from the individual above who said they received #96 out of 100).

You know how we are always told "this is a National Security issue" for anything the powers that be do that we object to???

Spell Illuminati backwards then type this into your browser, and I lie not, this will take you to the NSA website! So when they use the phrase 'this is a national security issue' or national security safety, what they are saying is this is to protect the Illuminati and it is none of your business!

www.itanimulli.com

This is in your face and they are probably laughing like hell at what fools we are.

Soory to use this page but didn't know where else to post it. I think people should know as this is no accident.

I had hoped that BSN would fix their problems, but it was much worse than I anticipated and they appear to have lost at least six months worth of content including my articles. I will repost them here next week, but it will take me a little while since I do not have the final revisions here. I apologize for the inconvenience.

bsn has been partially down the last few days. I'll ask Theo when he expects his site to be fixed. If worst comes to worst, I'll republish the article here. Sorry for the problems.
